Indigo Girls

For those who missed it, we had such a fantastic time with Travis Boyer at our Indigo Dyeing Workshop. So many people showed up that we're definitely going to have a repeat performance sometime soon! Maybe we'll dye with beets next time and after enjoy a nice hearty salad?

We played around a lot with different tying and binding techniques to get some awesome new designs. We especially had a lot of fun looking into Shibori, the age-old japanese dyeing methods. Check out some of the amazing pieces below and feel free to email us any pics you have of your work from the afternoon at jemsfabricwarehouse@gmail.com.

Quilting on the Cutting Edge

Updates from our Working with Remnants Workshop a few weeks ago. We had a great time experimenting with scrap fabric and opening people's eyes to one of our favorite overlooked crafts, Quilting! We saw some very exciting projects in the works and would love to see some pics of them. If you have any photos of your work, send them in to jemsfabricwarehouse@gmail.com.

Also many thanks to Lena Hawkins, rebel quilter and remnants queen for helping us out! Look below for more ideas of projects to use your discarded fabric scraps.

Rag Rugs- look, crochet comes in handy!
Plastic bag dispenser- I'm sure yours can be prettier...
Underwear
Cell Phone/I-pod case
Book covers
Backpack- it's reversible!

And make sure to keep a look out for how many companies today try and reuse their scraps. It's economical and sustainable, whoduthunk! American Apparel, for example, has been doing it for a while now, with their Creative Reuse program. I mean, scrunchies from scraps? How easy is that!

Upcoming Workshops!

This Saturday 9/18, come join JEM Fabrics and Culture Push as we combine fashion and power tools in a collaborative DIY assembly line of epic proportions.
Be a part of an exciting art experiment as we take all kinds of discarded materials to create pieces of wearable sculpture as only Culture Push would do it. We've been scrounging and scavenging the craziest materials from all around the city and want to know how you can reimagine these common discarded objects into amazing pieces of fashion and art.
Come melt, drill, hammer, saw, weave, stud, and sew a whole new outfit with us!
